REMEMBERING

REMEMBERING
The day the color drained away…
In a flash of red and blinding, booming insanity…
Replaced by clouds of boiling gray, brown ash and dust…
Around the world A billion hushed
Voices subdued,
Eyes glued
In shock,
In terror,
Un-comprehending…
A silent gaping “Why?”
And then a cry
Ripped from a collective soul
As stunned,
Transfixed
We watched the bodies fly
D
O
W
N
    Away from their souls.
REMEMBERING
Because forgetting is not possible
Because forgetting is not an option
Because this must never happen again…. and yet
It does,
The grave stones headlines prove it
The shattered empty eyes show it
And half the world away A million displaced people know it…
That hate,
HATE,
Can rise so high as if to choke the heavens
BUT,
LOVE,
Love can bend so low to STOP
The killing.
For those who died,
This last penance…
We who survived must make a better world to LIVE in.
